The Miles Are Building

Over the 4-day Thanksgiving holiday, I began in earnest the training I will need for the ride to Maine, putting 194 miles behind me and then a week later, yesterday, rode another 49 miles to Homestead and back.
What's great is that the 49 miler yesterday was relatively easy despite the 15 mph winds in my face all of the way back riding north to the house. Actually had to finish riding on the sidewalks because it was past dark and during rush hour and motorists on the way home are less tolerant of bicyclists than even those we encounter on weekend mornings.
I have committed to raising money for the Sabrina Cohen Foundation for Stem Cell Research and for the Multiple Myeloma Foundation. My friend Roy has Multiple Myeloma, a blood cancer and the stem cells he will have transplanted in January should help eradicate the disease for some time. A friend of his had the procedure done 10 years ago and her cancer has not returned so that is a good indication.
It appears at this juncture we are going to leave June 16th from the Jacksonville area and proceed north. I have downloaded the route from a company called Adventure Cycling which has turn by turn directions. It looks easy to follow, especially since Bobbie calls me Rand McNally.
